LATHAM, NY – It would be a successful Senior Day for the Siena men's tennis team's four seniors, as they defeated the Lafayette Leopards by a final score of 4-3 at Tri-City Fitness Saturday night. The Saints have now tied their highest win total since 2008 at five, and stand with nine matches left in the season.
"It was a nice win before we hit a three-week break," said head coach
Jeff Osborn. "Getting a win for our seniors today will be a nice memory for them to take with them."
Doubles play opened with a flash of excellence, as the Green and Gold sped through all three matches with wins, including a 7-6 (6) win from all senior tandem in
Cameron Kirkwood and Alex Giannakitsidis.
Siena would split the opening two courts in singles play, as junior
Sagar Bains took a comeback win at the #1 spot by a final score of 1-6, 6-4, 6-4. Reigning MAAC Player of the Week
Guillermo Lopez Torres won in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. Senior
Matt Bellino would snag a victory at #5 singles, also winning in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.
The Saints will take a lengthy break, hitting the court next on Sunday, March 22 when they host Merrimack College at Tri-City Fitness. Opening serve for the match gets things going at 11 a.m.
