LOUDONVILLE, NY – Sophomore
Amari Anthony tied a Siena MAAC Tournament single-game record hitting five three pointers as the Green and Gold saw their season come to a close in a 72-56 loss to the Fairfield Stags.
Anthony's five three pointers led her to a team-high 17 points on the day, as she added a pair of free throws to her resume. Classmate
Margo Peterson joined her in double-figures with 11 points as she scored three baskets from distance. Senior
Sabrina Piper ended her career in Green and Gold scoring nine points, giving her a final career total of 1,041 points. Sophomore Lala Watts reach double-digits in rebounds, notching 10 total with another three blocks as she finishes the season with 69 blocks. That total will rank second all-time in a single-season.
Fairfield saw four players score in double-figures, led by sophomore Lou Lopez-Senechal who collected a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Katie Armstrong scored 17 points, while both Sam Kramer and Rachel Hakes were both effective on offense scoring 10 points. Hakes also tossed out a team-high seven assists, while Kramer distributed six assists.
Fairfield came out strong hitting all six of their opening three-point shots, as the score would sit 22-6 with 2:05 to play in the first as Armstrong hit the sixth three pointer for Fairfield. However, Peterson would hit two threes in a row for the Saints as the Green and Gold finished the quarter on a 6-0 run, trailing 22-12.
The Stags big lead would be a key for them in the second quarter, as both teams found success on offense early on but both struggled down the stretch of the half after the media timeout. The Saints would go 1-for-8 from the floor over the final four minutes, while the Saints held Fairfield scoreless for a period of 3:46 to end the half. The Stags would hold an 11 point lead, 36-25 going into the locker room at the half.
Despite a small comeback at the end of the third quarter, the Stags would build another lead as large as 22 points before the fourth quarter would get underway. But the Saints didn't give up, cutting the lead to 11 with just over two minutes to play in the game thanks to a trio of makes from Anthony, Brown, and freshman
Ashley Williamson. But the Stags held on down the stretch, keeping the Saints off the board over the final two minutes to secure the win.
The Saints put up 12 second chance points, and also got 16 points off the bench as both of those totals topped those of Fairfield. The Stags won both the rebound battle and edged the Saints in the paint 20-18.
