HARRISONBURG, VA - Siena softball (1-8) concluded a challenging weekend of play at the JMU Invitational with a 14-1 defeat at RV/RV James Madison Sunday morning.
Taking on the Dukes for the second time on the weekend, the Saints quickly fell behind at Veterans Memorial Field, competing in the consolation game of the four-team tournament.
The Dukes used a pair of home runs, as well as RBIS on a triple and a single and a stolen base at the place to fly out to an 8-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. An RBI double in the second added another run in the home half of the second.
Capping off a breakout weekend which included a pair of home runs, freshman Angelina Stile was the source of the Saints' offense in the loss, sending an RBI double to left center that score sophomore Yamila Evans in the top of the third.
Having only dropped out of the top-25 in major polls this past week, the Dukes finished the job by tacking on five more runs via two RBI singles, an RBI double and an RBI triple in the final three frames.
Stile was the Saints' leader offensively, going 2-2 from the plate, while freshman Allison Speshyock (0-2) was tagged with the loss in two-third of an inning on the mound. Isabel Kelly (2-0) picked up the win for JMU.
Siena will continue non-conference play with a mid-week series at North Carolina Central in Durham, NC on Tuesday, March 10, with action stated for Noon & 2 PM.
