The Siena Saints fell in their final road contest before their home opener on Tuesday afternoon, as they were defeated by the New Hampshire Wildcats by a final score of 59-45. The Saints struggled, shooting just over 32 percent from the field, including a 3-for-20 clip from three-point range.
Fifth year
Rayshel Brown had a standout performance, scoring 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting afternoon and adding a team-high eight rebounds. Freshman
Anajah Brown made her collegiate debut, scoring six points and snagging seven rebounds. Sophomore
Ahniysha Jackson also added eight points on the game, and junior
Cheyenne Talbot dished out four assists.
New Hampshire was led by a 21 point effort from Amanda Torres, as she would go 8-for-11 from the floor. Torres also tossed out five assists, while Sophia Widmeyer was the other Wildcat in double figures with 11 points. Helena Dellarulle finished with nine points and four steals, while Ivy Gogolin had nine rebounds.
After the Saints scored the first bucket of the game, New Hampshire turned in a 9-0 run before
Ahniysha Jackson knocked down a three-pointer to end it. However, that would lead the Wildcats to a 17-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Rayshel Brown would find a groove in the second quarter, but the Saints continued to struggle on offense just under 26 percent and 1-for-11 from three-point range. New Hampshire would hold a 27-17 lead at the half.
In the third, the Saints kicked off the offensive output going 7-for-15 from the field for 16 points. But the Green and Gold would give up 22 points in the frame, and trail 49-33 going into the fourth. The Wildcats would finish things off in the fourth, holding on for the win.
The Saints return to action this Saturday, Nov. 27 when the Green and Gold return home to the UHY Center for their home opener against the Duquesne Dukes. Opening tip-off for the game is set for 2 p.m.
