The Siena Volleyball team went and competed at Fairfield on Sunday afternoon, as the Saints would fall in both matches on the day by finals of 3-0.
MATCH 1: Fairfield 3, Siena 0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-17)

Alexa Withun scored six kills apiece as the Saints fell in the first match of the day. The Saints struggled on the attack, hitting .087 compared to a .420 mark from the Stags. Fairfield was led by a pair of 12-kill efforts from Laura Seeger and Emily Schillinger.
"We struggled early to match thepace and intensity Fairfield brought out of the gate," said head coach
Vilis Ozols. "I thought our young team stabilized well and there are some good learning aspects we gained from this match."
Fairfield scored early and often, holding Siena to just nine points in the first set as Fairfield hit a solid .714 coming out of the gate in that first frame. The Saints would execute nine kills in the second set, despite going down 2-0 in the match. The Green and Gold would make a run in the third set, as they only trailed 22-17 late. However, Fairfield used two kills and a Siena attack error to close the door and grab the win.
MATCH 2: Fairfield 3, Siena 0 (25-15, 25-9, 25-19)
The Stags continued their run into the second match as they finished with another solid attack percentage at .410. for the match.
Freshman
Greta Stjade stepped up with six kills apiece, while Withun scored another five. Siena's total errors for the match would accumulate to 21 to only 17 kills. However, Siena did secure five aces in the second match to Fairfield's six. Joelle Battles led the Stags with 11 kills, and Schillinger went for double-digits again finishing with 10 kills.
"Fairfield played so well tday and we struggled to overcome that," added Ozols. "We showed some really good bursts of execution and our next big task is to sustain those, particularly in the face of tough competition."
Tied at nine in the first set, Fairfield would use a 5-0 run to jump out to a 14-9 lead, and were able to take it home from there to secure the first set win. In the second set, Fairfield would score early and often, finishing the set on a 6-0 run to take a 2-0 lead. The third set, Siena would be competitive and climb their way back from an early deficit to make the score 19-18 in favor of Fairfield. But the Stags would score six of the last seven points to secure the win.
The Saints return to action Wednesday, Mar. 24 when they host the Niagara Purple Eagles for a single match at the UHY Center at 1 PM.
