It was a tale of two games Saturday afternoon at Siena Softball Field, but Siena Softball (7-7) was able to come out with a pair of wins, no matter what the circumstance. The Saints picked it their first doubleheader sweep of the season to kick off the four-game weekend series with Saint Peter's (0-4), taking game one, 9-1, in five innings, and outlasting the Peacocks, 2-1, in the 11-inning nightcap.
Game 1: Siena 9, Saint Peter's 1 (5)
Looking to start the weekend off strong after a quick turnaround from the mid-week split at Fairfield, the Green and Gold used the second inning to blow the contest wide open, sending across seven runs in the frame before the dust cleared. Senior

Maritza Diaz both sent home runs on bases loaded walks, while junior
Yamila Evans was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Sophomores

Angelina Stile each sent in run on RBI singles, while Diaz scored the final run of the frame off a wild pitch.
The Peacocks, who began the series playing in their first contest since March 27, got on the board in the top of the fifth via an RBI fielder's choice. The contest ended early in the home half of the frame, with Stile sending a ball over the left field fence for her first home run of the season and DeChiaro singling to left to plate freshman
Isabella Pardo and send the run rule into effect.
Coming off an impressive complete game win over the Stags on Thursday, Siena sophomore right-hander Allie Speshyock (4-1) picked up her fourth consecutive win, striking out four and walking just one over four innings of seven-hit, one-run ball. Classmate
Nicole Patille recorded a strikeout in the final inning defensively for the Saints, while Sophie Wilson (0-1) took the loss in one and two-thirds frames for the Peacocks. Stile went 3-3 offensively for Siena en-route to her third career big fly.
Game 2: Siena 2, Saint Peter's 1 (11)
After playing just an hour and 40 minutes to open the series, the two squads entered a pitcher's duel to round out the day, recording Siena's longest game by innings since 2011. Both starting pitchers went the distance in the marathon outing, with graduate student
Maddie McMahon (2-2) tying
Tara Campbell's (2004 & 2005) program record with 13 strikeouts over 11 innings pitched. Saint Peter's' Sydney Senerchia (0-1) gave up both runs off just five hits, while gunning down seven batters herself.
Saint Peter's got on the board first in the top of the second with an RBI double to left center, despite McMahon recording five strikeouts over the first two innings. McLaughlin tied up the affair at one with an RBI single that scored Pardo in the bottom of the fourth. The game would continue well into extra innings, with Saint Peter's stranding seven runners and Siena leaving four on-base. Finally, it was McLaughlin who came through with the two-out RBI single to center field that sent in junior
Sabrina Vargas to give Siena its third straight win and 12
th consecutive win over Saint Peter's.
McMahon also tied Campbell (2003-06) for the fourth-most wins in program history by picking up her 34
th victory in the circle for the Saints, passed
Tara Plourde (1998-01) for fifth all-time in strikeouts, and moved into fifth in appearances made. At 7-7, Siena is off to its best start through 14 games since 2016 (7-7).
Siena will look to keep up its win streak and grind out its first series victory of the season on Sunday, April 10, when the two teams battle it out during to close out the weekend. Sunday's gamse were moved up due to the threat of inclement weather, and will now take place at 10 AM and 12 PM.
