Saints Storybook Season Ends in NCAA First Round

Women’s Tennis Sets the Bar for Program Going Forward

The Siena Women's Tennis team saw their season come to an end on Friday afternoon, as the MAAC Champions were downed by #11 Florida by a final of 4-0 at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex in Gainesville, Florida.
 
Siena finishes their season 7-4, winning the program's second MAAC Championship in program history with their defeat over top-seeded Quinnipiac.
 
The Green and Gold fell behind early, dropping the doubles point with losses on Court 1 and Court 2 by finals of 6-1 and 6-1. Junior Meagan Brown and senior Kylie Mullaney competed on Court 1 against the #7 ITA ranked doubles duo of McCartney Kessler and Merlee Zein, while it would be sophomore Petra Miszczak and freshman Emma Boggiali competing on Court #2 facing the #53 ranked doubles pair in Ida Jarlskog and Layne Sleeth. Court #3 featuring sophomore Maanya Viswanath and junior Anastasia Koniaev would go unfinished.
 
In singles, Brown would match up with the ITA's #8 nationally ranked singles player in Florida's Kessler. Brown would compete, getting multiple points in a 6-1, 6-1 loss at #1 singles. On Court 2, Mullaney would be paired with Zein, who ranks 103 on the ITA rankings chart in singles. Mullaney would make the first set a 6-2 finish in a loss, while set two would go unfinished.
 
On Court 3, Miszczak faced #79 ranked Ida Jarlskog in a 6-0, 6-0 final as they finished second to Brown's match at #1. Finishing third to clinch the match for Florida would be Court #6, where Koniaev fell to Sydney Berlin 6-1, 6-0.
 
Going unfinished were Courts 4 and 5, with Viswanath and Boggiali. Viswanath squared off with No. 71 ranked Layne Sleeth in a 6-1, 4-1 unfinished match, while Boggiali would make moves and go unfinished in a 6-1, 5-2 score.
 
All in all, the Saints collected 13 total games on the court between the doubles and singles competition.
