Volleyball Falls at Niagara in Regular Season Finale

Saints Lock Up Fifth Seed in Upcoming MAAC Tournament

The Siena Saints fell to the Niagara Purple Eagles by a 3-1 (25-17, 19-25, 18-25, 23-25) on the road in their regular season finale.

Liana Tolliver led the Purple Eagles with 16 kills, while Taylor Allen finished with nine kills. Kinga Wronska collected 37 digs for Niagara as well. Gracie Halley was just as good defensively for Siena, finishing with 31 digs. Ece Emrullah led the Siena offense, collecting 13 kills with Sara Wagner getting a double-double with 12 kills and 13 digs.

The first set went the way of the Saints, despite a slow start. Niagara lept out to a 9-4 lead before Siena turned it on and worked their way to a 20-14 lead. The six-point advantage was enough for the Saints, as they held on for the set win capped by a kill from sophomore Olga Sawinska.

From there, the Saints struggled on offense, as they hit under .150 over the next two sets as the Purple Eagles took 25-19 and 25-18 wins to go up 2-1 in the match. Niagara finished off the match in the fourth set, using a big run to set up their win.

With Siena up 13-7 midway through, the Purple Eagles used a 9-0 to go up 16-13 and never looked back. Siena fought back to even the score at 23-all late, but a kill from Tolliver and a Siena attack error finished off the match for Niagara.

Siena returns to action on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 1:30 p.m. when they square off against the fourth-seeded Canisius Golden Griffins in the quarterfinals of the MAAC Championships at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
