The match was tightly contested throughout the match, with 25 total ties and 14 different lead changes. Fairfield won the battle in set one, as they turned a 17-16 lead midway through the set into a 22-17 lead toward the end of the set. The cushion the Stags created helped them to their 25-21 win in the opening frame.
Siena fought back with a strong 25-18 win in set two. Wunder and Wagner were both key for the Green and Gold, as both approached double-digits at that point. The Saints finished the set strong, putting up a 5-0 run to take the 25-18 lead.
That ended up as the lone set Siena would take, as Fairfield flipped the script with a 25-18 win of their own in the third set. With the Stags up 2-1 in the match, Siena battled in the fourth. As the score stood 17-all, a call in favor of the Saints was reversed after a coaches' challenge and awarded to Fairfield. The Stags rode the momentum to a 25-22 win, sealing their spot in the MAAC Championship on Saturday afternoon.
Siena finishes their season with a 13-17 overall record, and 10-8 mark in the MAAC. The 13 wins are a six-win improvement from 2021 under new head coach
Simone Asque. The Saints also earned their first All-MAAC selections for the first time since 2017, with their season highlighted by an eight-match win streak in MAAC play.
