Softball Dominates Delaware State in Midweek Action

Saints Rolled to 23-2 Win in Delaware

Continuing an eight-game road trip across the Mid-Atlantic Region, Siena Softball (7-10) tallied its third win in as many days with a 23-2 blowout over MEAC foe Delaware State at The Hornets Nest in Dover, Delaware.

The win set the program's Division I scoring record, and matched the most runs scored in a single game since a 28-0 over Bard College April 29, 1981. Siena put up 20 runs in a game for the first time since a 20-11 victory at Saint Peter's on March 29, 2015, and recorded its largest margin of victory over an opponent since defeating St. Francis Brooklyn, 22-0, on April 7, 2004.

The Green and Gold began its first-ever competition against the Hornets by putting up seven runs in the first inning, while adding four in the second, ten in the third, and two in the fourth en-route to its first mercy rule victory in nearly a year. The home team got on the board with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third, while Siena held a 19-4 advantage in hits on the day.

The Saints brought out 17 different players offensively, with 13 garnering a hit and 13 coming in to score. Senior Ava Fitzmaurice went 3-3 with four runs and 3 RBI's to lead the team offensively, while junior Kaitlyn Davis, junior Shannon Bonewit, freshman Ashley Giampolo, and junior Jocelyn Ulrich, all recorded multi-hit outings at the plate. Additionally, freshman pitcher Adriana Romano recorded her first collegiate plate appearance, hit, and RBI's, while junior arm Nicole Patille also took her first collegiate at-bat. Fitzmaurice improved to 5-3 in the circle on the year over four innings, while junior Allison Speshyock also pitched an inning.

Siena will now wrap its Spring Break road trip with a weekend series at George Mason in Fairfax, Virginia. Due to the threat of inclement weather, the teams will now play a doubleheader beginning at 2 PM on Friday, March 25, with the final game of the series set for Noon on Saturday, March 26.
