LOUDONVILLE, NY – Taking the pool at home for the third consecutive match, Siena Water Polo (4-25, 1-15) could not overcome an early run from MAAC foe Iona (16-15, 7-9) in its season finale, falling in an 11-7 decision to the Gaels at the Siena Swim Center.
The Green and Gold kept pace early with their MAAC rivals thanks to a pair of first quarter goals from senior
Georgia Vargas, but Iona ended the first half on a four-goal run and didn't look back. Vargas finished off what would be a four-goal performance with a pair in the third quarter, with freshman
Cece White also scoring to allow the Saints to come within three.
Senior
Bianca Prinsloo began the fourth quarter with a score, but the Gaels netted three of the game's final four goals, despite a penalty conversion from Prinsloo. Junior Goalkeeper
Anna Mossakowski recorded six goals in-net for half the game, while sophomore
Caroline Behr made seven saves during the second half.
Siena's season ends with a 4-25 overall record, including a 1-15 mark in MAAC play.
