The Siena Men's Tennis team saw their season come to a close in the MAAC Semifinals on Saturday afternoon, as the Green and Gold were defeated by the No. 3 seeded Quinnipiac Bobcats by a final score of 4-3 at the Mercer Country Park Tennis Center in West Windsor, New Jersey.
Despite a win at #1 doubles from
Dante Russo and
Tomas del Olmo, the Saints dropped the other two courts to give up the doubles point to the Bobcats. Trailing 1-0, Siena jumped even after
Agustin Suarez took a win at #3 singles. The Saints would go on to fall on courts #4 and #6 in the match.
All-MAAC First Team selection
Darek Kuczynski then grabbed a win to make things 3-2 in favor of the Saints before
Dante Russo fueled the tie match with a win at #1 to bring the match to 3-3. With court #2 to be decided in the third set, the Saints fell short in a tiebreaker.
Siena ends their season with a new program record of 14-9, and a 4-2 regular season mark in the MAAC. The second seed was the highest seed in program history, with the appearance in the tournament being the first since 2009-10.
