LOUDONVILLE, NY – Battling through wet weather to kick off a seven-game home stand, Siena Softball (20-21) began a jam-packed week of action with a home win over a first-time foe. The Saints took down Bryant (11-25), 7-3, at Siena Softball Field Tuesday afternoon.
Taking the field for a single game after a scheduled doubleheader was condensed, Siena tacked three runs on the board right off the bat, with sophomore
Mikala Fletcher plating a pair on an RBI double to left center and junior
Angelina Stile scoring Fletcher on a sacrifice fly. Bryant battled back by hanging a three of its own in the top of the second off a pair of RBI singles, but it would be all Saints from there on out offensively.
With the game moved along defensively by a three-pitcher effort for the Green and Gold, Siena grabbed hold of the lead for good in the bottom of the third via an RBI single up the middle from senior
Ava Fitzmaurice and an RBI groundout off the bat of junior
Emma McLaughlin that allowed Stile to cross for the second time. The Saints added a pair of insurance runs in the home half of the sixth innings off a sacrifice fly from junior
Jocelyn Ulrich and an RBI single from Stile that plated sophomore
Isabella Pardo.
Siena held an 8-7 advantage in hits, with Fletcher and Fitzmaurice each recording multi-hit games. Following a two-strikeout, two-inning no-decision from junior
Allison Speshyock, freshman
Adriana Romano (4-5) earned the win with a pair of strikeouts and just two hits allowed over three innings. Junior
Nicole Patille picked up her first save of the year during the final two innings of the game, striking out the side to secure the win in the top of the seventh.
Siena's final home action of the season continues when the Saints welcome non-conference foe Hartford to Loudonville on Thursday, April 28 for doubleheader action at 2 & 4 PM.
