BUFFALO, NY – Just before taking the field to begin the 2022 MAAC Softball Championship in Buffalo, New York, Siena Softball (28-21, 14-6) saw four different players take home five total MAAC postseason honors as the conference unveiled the 2022 All-MAAC Teams and MAAC Major awards Wednesday morning. The team matched its most awards earned in a season since 2013.
Sophomore
Isabella Pardo (outfield), senior
Ava Fitzmaurice (utility), and freshman
Kyleigh Potter (designated player) earned spots on the All-MAAC Second Team, while Potter and freshman pitcher
Adriana Romano were selected to the MAAC All-Rookie Team. Siena boasted multi All-Rookie Team selections and three players named to a single team for the first time since 2016.
Pardo led the Saints among qualifying batters in batting average (.341) during the regular season, while ranking fourth in the MAAC in hits (59), tied for sixth in runs (32) and third in at-bats taken (173). The Cypress, California native's hits total is currently tied for the sixth-most in a single season in program history, with Pardo also holding a .376 slugging and fielding percentage across all 49 games played thus far. The outfielder logged 17 multi-hit games during regular season competition, while holding a .969 fielding percentage defensively.
Fitzmaurice made an immediate impact on both sides of the ball as a first-year member of the program, spending substantial time in the circle, as well as in left field and as a designated player. The Greenville, New York native batted .329 during all 49 games in the regular season, with 51 hits, 26 runs, a team-high 11 doubles, a team-high three triples, and three home runs. She also held a 3.51 ERA and a 8-6 record across 95 and two-thirds innings in the circle, tossing 52 strikeouts over 26 appearances. Fitzmaurice was twice named the MAAC Player of the Week during the regular season.
A two-time MAAC Rookie of the Week selection, Potter made an impact with her power off the bat, tying for the team lead with five home runs and a .417 slugging percentage. The Queen Creek, Arizona native batted .214 with 22 hits, 17 runs and six doubles during the season, while also tying for the team lead with 29 runs batted in. Potter logged six multi-hit and eight multi-RBI performances.
Romano emerged as the Saints first option on the circle this season, led by a sold 114 strikeouts, which are tied for the fifth-most in single-season program history, second among freshmen, and sixth-most in the MAAC this season. A one-time MAAC Pitcher and Rookie of the Week, the Barnegat, New Jersey native leads the team with a 2.74 ERA over 94 and two-third innings pitched, holding an 9-5 record over 27 appearances. Romano's opposing batting average of .210 ranks fourth among MAAC pitchers.
Siena will begin its quest for a MAAC title as the number three seed in the 2022 MAAC Championship, taking on number six Iona on Wednesday at 11 AM.
