NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – Competing in its final regular season competition of the 2022 season, Siena Softball (28-21,14-6) locked up a top-3 seed in the upcoming MAAC Softball Tournament for the fourth time in the last five years with postseason action. The Saints ran the second-longest win streak in program history to ten with a doubleheader sweep of MAAC foe Niagara (14-23, 8-10) Saturday afternoon at Niagara Field in Niagara University, New York.

Siena ended the regular season with four straight doubleheader sweeps over the final two weeks of the season, and has now put together a double-digit winning streak for only the second time in the 47-year history of the program. The team also matched the second-most conference wins in program history at 14. The Saints will await their exact seeding and the location of where the 2022 MAAC Tournament will be held, which will be determined during the final two days of the regular season.

The Saints got on the board in the top of the first and never looked back, with reigning MAAC Offensive Player of the Week
Mikala Fletcher sending an RBI single up the middle to score sophomore

Adriana Romano (8-5) went to work, tossing nine strikeouts to record her fifth consecutive win in the circle and third straight in complete game fashion. With 114 strikeouts to her name during the regular season, the Barnegat, New Jersey native is now tied for fifth in single-season history, while second amongst freshmen.

Siena held a 6-3 hits advantage while only allowing five Niagara base-runners total to reach. Fletcher went 3-4 at the place in addition to the game's only run batted in to lead the team offensively.

The Saints' pitching continued to carry them to victory in game two, with junior
Nicole Patille (10-7) becoming the team's first arm to reach double-digit wins on the year. The Ocean View, Delaware product struck out a pair of batters in six innings in the circle, while senior
Ava Fitzmaurice recorded her third save of the year during the final inning.

Offensively, the Saints came back from a one-run deficit, with Niagara scoring on an RBI single in the bottom of the second to pull ahead. After stranding runners on the base paths in three of the first four innings, the Saints broke through with a four-run frame in the fifth. Junior
Jocelyn Ulrich plated a pair of runs on an RBI double, while Fletcher sent Ulrich home on an RBI single and then scored on a wild pitch. The home team got a run back in the sixth off an RBI ground out, but could not come any closer.

At 14-6 and having concluded the regular season, Siena sits tied with Canisius for the most wins in the league. The Saints can clinch a share of the MAAC Regular Season title if the Golden Griffins lose both of its games to Niagara tomorrow, and if Fairfield loses at least one of its final four contests over the next two days. The 2022 MAAC Softball Championship will be hosted by Canisius in Buffalo if the Golden Griffins win at least one of their final two games.
