Men’s Soccer Dominates in 8-0 Win Over Hartford

Saints Matched Most Goals Since 1995, Featured 13 Different Point Scorers

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Men's Soccer (3-1-1) made it a mission to emphasize the importance of team incorporation heading into the 2022 season. The Saints' play made that known Sunday afternoon in an 8-0 rout of Hartford (0-5) at Hickey Field, which featured 13 different players recording a goal or an assist.

The dominant performance matched the team's most goals put up in a game since an 11-0 win over Niagara in 1995, and went down as tied for the second-most goals ever in a home match and knotted for the third-most in a game ever since the team achieved varsity status in 1974. The win served as just the second over the Hawks in program history, and gives Siena an impressive +6 goal differential through five matches this year.

Siena recorded a single-game record 39 shot attempts of 41 taken in the match, with 14 of 15 shots on-goal going to the home team. The Saints also attempted 12 of 13 corner kick opportunities on the day.

Facing off against a Hartford team that has yet to score a goal this season, the Saints started off the scoring in the 11th minute, with sophomore Thomas Storodegard knocking in a goalkeeper deflection for his second goal of the year. Classmate Erik Reis rocketed in a goal from the left side of the field with help from sophomore Jesper Schone Vogtengen in the 24th minute, while sophomore Zach Gardner teamed up with junior Cole Hellert and freshman Magnus Saaby to record his second goal of the year in the 41st minute. Sophomore Jacob Sandun Arachchige-Jensen found the back of the net for the first time just over two minutes later to close the half, with Hellert and Gardner providing assistance.

The second half of action featured field action for the entirety of Siena's bench, with Thomas Storodegard completing his first career multi-goal performance in the 51st minute with help from Schone Vogtengen and junior Nick Fernandes. It would take only 15 minutes for twin brother Frederic Storodegard to get on the board with his first score of the year, finishing a cross from junior Bilal Hersi in the 66th minute. Following a right-side goal from graduate transfer Alex Bourgeois that was assisted by senior Mark Sojer, Frederic completed multi-goal days for both brothers in the 83rd minute with assists going to Sojer and junior Robby Romano.

Following the team's second shutout victory of the season, Siena will head back out on the road next weekend to continue non-league action. The Saints will head to North Andover, Massachusetts to face Merrimack on Saturday, September 17, with kickoff set for 7 PM.
