WILTON, NY – Siena Women's Golf sophomore Jillian Barend improved two strokes to lead her team in the conclusion to opening weekend action Saturday morning. The Saints took second place at the first holding of the Saratoga Invitational at McGregor Links Country Club in Wilton, New York.
Hofstra shot +27, 315 during round two to win the team title with a 36-hole total of +41, 617. Siena carded +37, 325 during the final round to finish at +70, 646 on the weekend, while Saint Rose shot +63, 351 to wrap the tournament wait +125, 701. Hofstra's Savannah Weyrauch carded identical rounds of even, 72 to take home the individual title with even, 144.
Barend went +6, 78 on the par-72, 5,939-yard course, to wrap the weekend with +14, 158 to tie for fifth place individually. Classmate Manoela Barcellos went for +8, 80 to finish at +15, 159 in seventh, while freshman Mackenzie Whitney ended her first collegiate tournament with a round of +12, 84 to wrap with +19, 163 in eighth. Siena's competition team was rounded out by seniors Emily Nash and Isabella Diaz, who shot rounds of +11, 83 and +16, 88, respectively to finish tied for 11th with +27, 171.
Siena concludes its opening weekend of the Fall 2022 season on Sunday, September 18 in the annual Crosstown Challenge against UAlbany. Eighteen-hole action at Wolfert's Roost Golf Club in Albany is set to begin at 11:30 AM.
