Volleyball Falls in Crosstown Matchup with UAlbany

Saints Drop Final Non-Conference Matchup of Season to Great Danes

LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Volleyball team continued their rivalry with crosstown rival UAlbany on Tuesday night. Despite a win in the first set by Siena, the Great Danes came out with a 3-1 (25-22, 17-25, 23-25, 23-25) victory at the UHY Center.
 
UAlbany's Alexa Harris led all offensive players with 21 total kills and a .289 attack percentage. Graduate student Emily Wunder led the Saints in that department, putting up 17 kills.
 
Siena jumped out to a 1-0 lead thanks to a 25-22 first set victory. Wunder was strong early on, collecting seven kills in the first frame for the Saints. The Green and Gold finished the set with 14 kills while UAlbany also had their lowest hitting percentage  - .073 – of the night in that set.
 
In the second, the Great Danes found a groove, tying the match at 1-1 following a 25-17 victory. Both sides battled in closely contested third and fourth sets, as the Great Danes prevailed in each. In the third, Siena held a late 21-20 lead before UAlbany scored five of the last seven points to take the set 25-23.
 
The fourth set began looking like the match was headed for a fifth set, as the Saints jumped out to a 17-10 lead. UAlbany then scored a 7-0 run, leading to an overall 12-2 run that saw the Great Danes flip the script and take a 22-19 lead. Despite a late push from the Saints getting the score to 24-23, UAlbany shut the door on a Siena attack error to take the win.
 
Sara Wagner and Hailey Hinkel each finished with double-digit kills, while Claire Isaksen tossed out 40 assists. Senior Gracie Halley added 23 digs. For UAlbany, Hannah Rowe finished with 12 kills, and Malea Stanton tossed out 49 assists.
 
Siena returns to action this Saturday, Oct. 1 at 1 p.m. when they face off against Rider in their first road matchup in MAAC play.
