RIVERDALE, NY – Siena Women's Basketball suffered its first loss of the 2023 calendar year thanks to a career performance from the MAAC's Preseason Player of the Year Thursday morning. The Saints (10-6, 4-2) dropped a 78-53 decision at Manhattan (6-10, 3-4) inside Draddy Gymnasium in Riverdale, New York, with the game serving as the Saints second Kids Day contest in a week.
Manhattan senior Dee Dee Davis dropped a career-high 37 points and added 11 rebounds for the top scoring performance in the MAAC this season, with 28 points coming during the first half of play. The Jaspers handed Siena its most points allowed in a half this season by dropping 48 points in the first half alone, while starting the contest with 26 first quarter points.
The home team's largest lead came with 7:35 to play in the first half in the form of a 35-12 advantage, with the Saints trimming the lead down to 16 in the first half and as little as 13 in the game, but unable to come any closer. Davis connected on a season-best four three-point shots, while senior Brazil Harvey-Carr added 17 points and five triples and junior Jade Blagrove went for 11 points.
The Jaspers shot 46 percent from the field while holding the Saints to 37 percent and out-rebounding them,39-32, with the latter tying a season low for the visitors. Siena freshman Elisa Mevius led the team with 14 points and six assists, while sophomore Anajah Brown got back into double-figure scoring with ten points.
Siena will look to rebound as it heads back home to the UHY Center on Saturday, January 14 to host Saint Peter's at 2 PM.
