Saints Party in Poughkeepsie

Women’s Soccer Routs Rival Marist 4-0

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Freshman Abby Daly netted her first collegiate multi-goal performance to lead Siena Women's Soccer to an emphatic 4-0 rout of MAAC rival Marist under the lights at Tenney Stadium. The four-goal margin of victory was the largest in the 34-match history between the I-87 rivals, while the four goals scored equaled the most-ever for the Saints against the Red Foxes.

Siena (3-6-2, 2-1-1) dominated from start to finish in a red-hot performance, matching the mercury on an unseasonably warm October night in the Hudson Valley which saw the temperature at kickoff eclipse 80 degrees.

Offensively, the Saints exploded for the program's first four-goal performance spanning four seasons and 55 matches dating back to a 4-1 victory at Saint Peter's on Mar. 30, 2021 during the COVID-impacted Spring MAAC Championship season. Siena was equally impressive on the defensive end, holding Marist (2-6-3, 2-2-1) without neither a shot on target nor a corner kick to secure the squad's first clean sheet of the season. It marked the first time in which the Saints did not bequeath a shot on goal since a 1-0 victory vs. Quinnipiac on Oct. 16, 2021.

Daly, who has now amassed her first three collegiate goals over the past two matches, set the tone with a remarkable individual effort in the 26th minute. On a ball headed for the left corner, Daly turned on the jets making a 30-yard run into the box, thwarted possession away from both the keeper and a defender, and circled back to finish to put Siena in front.

With time winding down in the first half, the Saints headed to the break riding a wave of momentum following a 43rd minute tally. Iona Snape sent a long through ball from the right side which found its way through traffic to Cora Keohane who was all alone at the back door to tap in her first goal of the season.

Siena began the second half much like it finished the first, as they bookended the periods with scores to build a commanding 3-0 advantage in the 49th minute. Less than six minutes of match time apart, Daly struck for her second marker, weaving through defenders and finishing a 20-yard blast across inside the far-right corner.

Annie Bagnall joined the party in the 78th minute, redirecting home a cross from Megan Stowell which she looped across off the far-right post, and the rout was on.

The Saints held a commanding 17-6 advantage in shots and a 4-0 margin in corner kicks to improve to 9-2-2 over their past 13 matches vs. the rival Red Foxes. Moreover, Siena is now undefeated in six of their last seven trips to Poughkeepsie (5-1-1).

Angela Fini was not called upon to make a save in earning the shutout in goal for the Saints. Meanwhile, reigning MAAC Defensive Player of the Week Maddy Catalanotti was peppered all night long while making seven saves in a losing effort for Marist, which has scored just three total goals over their first 11 matches while being shutout eight times.

Siena now returns home on a high note to cap their season-long three-match road trip, hoping tonight's effort can serve as a turning point. All three victories to date have come on the road, where the Saints have scored 13 of their 14 goals thus far this season.

Siena will look to build momentum and right the ship at home when they finally return to the Capital Region for their first home match in three weeks when they host Niagara Saturday at 1 p.m. at Hickey Field.
