LOUDONVILLE, NY – Quinnipiac used 36 Siena personal fouls to convert 33 free throws and secure a series sweep of the Saints Saturday evening. The Bobcats (20-8, 15-4) took a 69-52 victory over the Green and Gold (17-11, 11-7) at the UHY Center to conclude Siena's 16-home home slate during the 2022-23 season.
After falling behind by as many as ten points early in the first quarter, Siena mustered up an 8-0 run to come within two, but never managed a lead in the game. Constant trips to the free throw line kept the Bobcats with the lead, with Siena unable to come within seven points in the second half of play. The Saints went 8-9 from the charity stripe and forced 14 Bobcat turnovers, but could not overcome the most free throws made in a MAAC game this season.
Siena was out-shot, 39 percent to 37.7 percent from the field, and lost the game's rebound margin by a pair. Sophomore Valencia Fontenelle-Posson and freshman London Gamble each got in double figures with 12 points, while freshman Teresa Seppala recorded six rebounds.
Quinnipiac graduate student Mary Baskerville's 16 points led the way offensively for the visitors, while Rose Caverly (13) and Mackenzie DeWees (12) also finished in double figures.
After rounding out a busy home slate matched for the most wins in the Capital Region since the 2002-03 campaign (11), Siena will conclude the 2022-23 regular season with a trip out west next weekend. The Saints will play at Niagara on Thursday, March 2 at 6 PM before taking on Canisius on Saturday, March 4 at 1 PM.
