MADEIRA BEACH, FL – Siena Softball closed out a jam-packed weekend of action at The Spring Games in Madeira Beach, Florida with a win on Monday, giving it three wins against national competition in its third weekend of action. The Saints (8-3) took a 6-3 win over Oakland in a contest that was rescheduled from Saturday afternoon.
Looking to erase Sunday's doubleheader sweep out of memory, the Green and Gold cranked out a five-run first inning to kick things off. Sophomore McKenzie Swinson scored on an RBI ground out from junior Isabella Pardo, graduate student Ava Fitzmaurice came in on a sacrifice fly from freshman Emma Petersen, a 2 RBI double from senior Jocelyn Ulrich plated a pair more, and graduate student Sabrina Vargas capped things off with an RBI single to third.
Following an RBI double from senior Emma McLaughlin to extend the Saints' lead to 6-0 in the top of the second, the Golden Grizzlies got on the board with a sacrifice fly in the home half of the inning, and added a pair on a wild pitch and RBI single in the third. Working off the strength of four and one-third innings from redshirt-freshman Alissa Eimont in the circle, Siena stranded seven Oakland batters during the final four innings to seal the win.
The Saints held a decisive 14-8 hits advantage, with Swinson, Pardo, McLaughlin, Ulrich, Vargas, and senior Angelina Stile all recording multi-hit outings. Following two opening innings in the circle from Fitzmaurice, senior Allison Speshyock (2-0) picked up the win in two-thirds of an inning, while Eimont fanned a pair for her second save of the season.
Off to an 8-3 start for only the second time in program history, Siena's spring break trip will continue on the West Coast this weekend. The Saints head to California to take part in the Capital Classic against Sacramento State, Alabama State, UC Davis, Saint Mary's and Southern Utah March 2-4.
