Saints Drop Completion of Suspended Game at Mount St. Mary’s

Mount Led Three-Run Comeback in Resumption of Saturday’s Nightcap

EMMITSBURG, MD – Siena Softball certainly got its mileage in over the course of an unexpectedly extended five-game road trip last week.

After playing a single game at Holy Cross last Thursday, the Saints traveled eight hours south only to have game two of a conference doubleheader with Mount St. Mary's suspended in the top of the fourth due to inclement weather. Following a doubleheader sweep at Rider in New Jersey on Sunday, Siena (31-14, 10-4) returned to Maryland on Monday to resume the game that they led, 2-0, in the top of the fourth, ultimately falling to The Mount (28-15, 11-3) in a 3-2 decision to concede a series sweep.

The Green and Gold had originally begun the contest on Saturday with an RBI double from senior Ava Fitzmaurice that scored junior Isabella Pardo, and extended the lead just before play was paused with an RBI groundout from senior Emma McLaughlin that plated sophomore Ashley Giampolo. The game was paused in the top of the fourth and two outs, with Siena placing a runner on third.

The Saints left runners on the corners as the top of the fourth concluded two days later, and gave up a solo home run in the bottom of the frame to allow the home team on the board. Fresh off a doubleheader sweep of Marist on Sunday, The Mount tied the game later in the inning with an RBI infield single, and pulled ahead for good with an RBI triple in the fifth.

Siena managed just one single and three walks in the final 3.1 innings of play, leaving five runners on-base while ultimately being out-hit, 6-4. Pardo recorded a multi-hit game, while Fitzmaurice (12-5) took the loss in the circle with four strikeouts. Following three and two-thirds opening innings and an exit from Mount's Olivia Murphy, the win went to Maddie Coleman (4-5), who allowed just one hit during the final stretch of play.

Siena will begin the final two-week stretch of the 2023 regular season with the last four home contests of the year, beginning with a non-conference doubleheader against Central Connecticut State on Wednesday, April 26 at 2 & 4 PM.
