HAMILTON, NY – Siena Men's Soccer kicked off what was forecasted to be a challenging 2023 schedule with a tough battle at Patriot League foe Colgate Thursday evening. The Raiders (1-0) took a 2-0 decision over the Saints (0-1) at Beyer-Small '76 Field in Hamilton to extend their winning streak to 11 over their in-state counterparts.
Starting off on the road before returning for a two-game homestand next week, the Green and Gold let up an early strike in the seventh minute off a back-line deflection, allowing Colgate's Mason Pahule to drive a one-touch from right to left on the grass from the top-right corner of the box.
The Raiders again found the back of the net in the first half off a late corner kick opportunity, with Alejandro Coury rocketing a third-chance opportunity into the top left corner in the 39
th minute.
Siena could not counter offensively to the Raiders despite owning a 12-4 shots advantage and a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Saints also recorded three of five shots on-goal, with all three coming in the second half.
The Saints received three shots from sophomore
Eric Svensson in his collegiate debut, while freshman goalkeeper
Bennet Glinder played all 90 minutes in goal in his first outing in Green and Gold.
Siena returns to Loudonville for its home opener against perennial rival Sacred Heart on Tuesday, August 29 at 5 PM, with action from Hickey Field broadcast on ESPN+.
