SYRACUSE, NY – Siena Men's Soccer's battle with the defending national champions saw some bright spots, but ultimately was halted at the hands of dark wet weather. The Saints (0-4) played #7 Syracuse (3-0-2) to a scoreless draw through 56 minutes before heavy rains forced the match to be declared a No Contest in the 56
th minute at SU Soccer Complex in Syracuse, New York Tuesday evening.
In a match where stats will not count due to play ending before the 70
th minute according to NCAA regulations, the Orange held a 9-3 advantage in shots and attempted all eight corner kicks, but Siena still came away with some viable chances.
The Saints received first half shots from junior
Zach Gardner and senior
Junior Kone, while
Cole Hellert gave the team arguably its best chance to score on a transition play early in the second half. Freshman keeper
Bennet Glinder stood solid in-goal with a pair of saves on nine shots faced.
A decision on whether the match could possiblly continue is forthcoming. Siena is scheduled to open MAAC play on Saturday, September 16 at 2 PM at Rider to continue a fourth-match road trip.
