BURLINGTON, VT – Siena Men's Soccer traveled north Tuesday evening to battle a nationally-ranked foe for the second time thus far on the 2023 season. The Saints (0-6) dropped a tight 1-0 decision at #17 Vermont (5-1-1) on Virtue Field in Burlington, Vermont in the team's second straight matchup with a nationally-ranked Catamount squad.
Facing off against a team which reached the Elite Eight at the 2022 NCAA College Cup, the Green and Gold used a solid defensive approach led by freshman goalkeeper
Bennet Glinder to hold Vermont scoreless into the break. The home team finally broke onto the board in the 55
th minute by way of a goal from Carter Johnson and never looked back.
UVM held a definitive 16-5 shots advantage, including all six of the game's shots on-goal. Siena ended up with six of the match's ten corner kick attempts and committed two fewer fouls than Vermont, but could not get things going offensively, with senior
Bilal Hersi leading four different shot takers with a pair of attempts off the bench in his second appearance of the season. Glinder tied a season best with five saves in-goal.
Following a rigorous four-match road trip spanning over three weeks, Siena returns home for its first conference bout at Hickey Field on Saturday, September 23 against MAAC rival Saint Peter's at 4 PM.
