Siena Volleyball made the trip to New Jersey and started the road trip on a high note by picking up its second sweep of the season with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-21) victory at Saint Peter's to even its conference record at 3-3 for the 2024 season.
Siena (4-13 overall, 3-3 MAAC) hit for its highest team hitting percentage thus far (.281) and extended its win streak versus the Peacocks to 10 straight with its last defeat coming in September of 2018.
Senior
Sara Wagner had her fifth double-double this season with 10 kills and 12 digs on a .320 hitting percentage to go along with five total blocks, and two aces.
Wagner become just the fourth player in program history to accrue at least 1,000 career kills and 100 career aces joining Kristin May (1,464 kills and 160 aces from 1993-96), Christie Gustafson (1,363 kills and 129 aces from 2003-06) Lauren Weber (1,343 kills and 121 career aces from 2000-03).
The Saints trailed 6-5 in the opening set before Wagner came up with a kill off a pass from
Alandra Hasbrouck and
Sina Toroslu notched back-to-back aces. The Saints did not trail again in the set, pushing the advantage to 18-11 behind kills from Toroslu and
Salme Adeele Hollas. SPU got within 21-19, but Siena scored the last four points highlighted by a Wagner ace and a kill from
Doga Diraz.
In the second set, Siena reeled off six straight points to capture a 7-3 lead capped by a kill from
Olga Sawinska on a pass from Toroslu. The Peacocks (3-9, 1-5 MAAC) got tied at 8 apiece when the Saints picked up points by Wagner,
Ella Treasure and another ace from Wagner. Diraz and Hollas finished it out with a kill each.
In the third set, there were three early ties before Siena scored five straight points underscored by kills from Toroslu, Hollas and Sawinska on passes from
Oliwia Majtyka and Hasbrouck. An attack error by SPU wrapped it up for Siena.
Next up, Siena will play at Rider in Lawrenceville on Sunday at 1 p.m.
