Capital Region Bragging Rights on the line as Volleyball hosts UAlbany

Saints return home to begin three-match home stand beginning on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Capital Region bragging rights for the area's top Division I women's volleyball team will be on the line as Siena will host cross-town rival UAlbany on Wednesday at 6 p.m. inside the UHY Center in what will be the 40th all-time meeting between the teams.

The match will be streamed on ESPN+ with Tim Drawbridge and James Hosley on the call and it will also be "Water Bottle Wednesday" with fans in attendance receiving a free Siena Volleyball Water Bottle.  The teams have also collaborated to raise funds to fight leukemia and lymphoma in what is being called a "Light the Night."  Donations to help the cause can be made by clicking on the link.

All live stats can be followed here and fans may follow the action with live video highlights, photos and updates on "X" @SienaVB.

The Saints (4-14, 3-4 MAAC) have dramatically improved its efficiency in recent weeks, hitting .231 or higher as a team in five of the past seven matches. The result has been three victories and two other matches in which the Saints pushed its opponent to the maximum of five sets.

It's been a stark contrast to Siena's first 11 matches, in which it hit at least .231 on just one occasion in its victory against Stonehill.

Siena is coming off a conference split last week on the road in New Jersey with a sweep over Saint Peter's and a three-set defeat to Rider.

UAlbany (6-11, 1-3 America East) is coming off a sweep at NJIT last Friday.  Freshman setter Maria Olga ("Mo") Siapani is having a season with immediate impact for her team, garnering four America East weekly awards as a setter and rookie of the week.  The Cyprus native has already totaled 504 assists in a 5-1 formation.

The Great Danes have also been led by redshirt junior outside hitter Shynelle Woroniuk, who has tallied 229 kills, 172 digs and 28 total blocks.

Sara Wagner eclipsed both the 1,000 career kill and 100 career ace thresholds and is only fourth member in Siena Volleyball program history to accomplish that feat.  The senior leads the Saints with 219 kills, 148 digs, 30 total blocks and 20 aces.

Olga Sawinska is coming off an impressive performance at Rider, in which the senior hit .643 with nine kills against no errors.

The teams last met last season with the Great Danes winning in three (25-17, 25-10, 25-10).

This will be the final non-conference match of the regular season for the Saints.
