LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Volleyball forged one of its strongest performances of the season on Senior Day and had match point twice before dropping a five-set thriller to Canisius 3-2 (25-14, 25-22, 28-30, 22-25, 13-15) on Sunday afternoon in a two-and-a half-hour marathon at the UHY Center.
Siena (6-24, 5-13 MAAC) set several single-match highs on the day.
Most notably, the Saints totaled 68 kills on 65 assists along with 104 digs—all best marks—and tied their highest total for blocks in a match with 16.
The digs mark was especially gaudy in that the team total was 30 digs higher than any other match this season.
Siena had two opportunities to finish it, leading 24-21 in the third set and then led 25-24 holding serve.
But Canisius (16-13, 12-6 MAAC) was able to keep it going, getting the extended win on a pair of kills from Lauren Hubert.
The Saints hit a season-best .600 in the opening set with 20 kills on 20 assists.
Then, Siena recorded eight blocks in the second set to go up 2-0.
Sara Wagner delivered a team-high 18 kills with 17 digs, five total blocks and two aces in her final match as a Saint.
The Polish native concluded her career ranked seventh all-time in kills with 1,139 and ninth all-time in kills per set at 2.85.
Salme Adeele Hollas also produced a double-double with 15 kills and a team-high 20 digs to go along with six blocks and two aces.
Fellow senior
Olga Sawinska had a strong finish as well in her final match, closing out with 13 kills.
Sina Toroslu, another senior, stuffed the stat sheet with 11 kills, eight digs and seven blocks.
Senior
Claire Isaksen led the team with a season-high 30 assists and
Grace Wilhelm collected 14 digs.
Doga Diraz finished with 10 kills as the Saints finished with five players reaching double-digits in kills.

Grace Wilhelm, and
Sina Toroslu with pre-match and post-match celebrations.
