NEW BRITAIN, CT - Siena Women's Basketball never trailed on Tuesday evening, cruising to its first win of the season, as well as of the
Terry Primm era, with a 87-50 triumph over the Central Connecticut (CCSU) Blue Devils from Detrick Gymnasium.
Among the five different players to notch double figures in points for Siena (1-4),
Zyriah Price and
Ana Conde did so in style with their first career double-doubles. Price recorded her points/rebounds double-double at the conclusion of the third quarter, and finished the game with career highs in points (17), rebounds (12), blocks (2), and steals (2). Conde's career night ended with 15 points and 11 boards.
Ahniysha Jackson matched Price with a game-high 17 points, while
Teresa Seppala nearly had a double-double as well with 15 points and eight rebounds.
Aniya Hooker dropped a career high 10 points, and also had career bests with five rebounds and three steals, while tying a career high with four assists.
The Saints limited CCSU (0-7) to just 30.3 percent shooting from the field (20-66) and 21.1 percent from three (4-19). The Green & Gold also had a season-high 11 steals among CCSU's 18 turnovers, helping lead to 14 points. With that, Siena's +16 rebound margin aided in 18 second chance points as the team out-gained CCSU on the glass, 54-38.
The Saints began the game with an 18-4 lead after the first quarter. The team shot 47.7 percent from the field in the opening 10 minutes while holding CCSU to 14.3, as well as 0-5 from beyond the arc. Price poured in six points in the quarter to pace the team after one.
Siena had some more success from three-point range in the second quarter, going 3-4 as a team, helping lead to a 39-16 advantage going into halftime. Price led the way with 10 points and six boards after one half, while Hooker had seven and three steals - along with a pair of heads-up charges taken.
Come the third, the Saints had their highest scoring quarter of the season with 27 points before going on to out-score CCSU 21-11 in the fourth, and cruise to a 37-point win.
The Saints make their long-awaited return to the UHY Center on Sun., Dec. 1 to host University of Massachusetts at 2 p.m.
