2024 Women's Rugby Season Review

The 2024 season for Siena Women's team brought different challenges than before,but was capped off by the women picking up a consecutive tri state conference championship this year.

From the outset, the team displayed strong teamwork, resilience, and the development of new skills, with standout performances in both attack and defense. Guidance from Captain Bella Angelo, Mykaela Reed as well as strong leadership from Holly O'Garro set the team well.
The emergence of new players such as Tallulah Powers and development of Sydney Weller was instrumental for the forward pack's dominance in open play.

Throughout the season, the team evolved tactically, refining their game and became a well-rounded, disciplined side.

Siena finished the regular season 5-0 with wins over New Paltz, Molloy, Maritime, Drew and Hofstra.

The championship match against New Paltz held at Siena on November 3, was a true showing of how the team has developed with a 64-5 win.

The conference win confirmed Siena's spot in the Small College East Regional playoffs in Canton MA as the #9 seed in the country. Siena faced #6 seed Colby on Saturday November 16. This fixture was a repeat of last year's regional semi final which Siena lost by 60 points.

This time around, Siena fought right to the end losing by 5 points in a thrilling end to end game. Final score 66-61 to Colby. The loss saw Siena face number #8 seed Bentley in the third place regional playoff game. Siena won this final fixture 50-14. This will see Siena finish in the top 10 in the country again this year.

After a challenging year due to scheduling, Siena once again shows they are developing as a program and maturing as a team. This will set the women's team up for a competitive spring and fall in 2025.
