Softball Sweeps Doubleheader against The Mount

Eimont earns two victories in the circle; Petersen collects six hits on day

The Siena Softball team got off to a rousing start in conference play by earning a doubleheader sweep on the road at Mount St. Mary's with a 4-3 win in game one and followed it up with a decisive 6-1 victory in the second game on Friday in Emmitsburg, MD at Meadows Field.

Siena (16-8, 2-0 MAAC) were provided a boost from the pitching of Alissa Eimont, who came on in relief in game one to earn the win and went the distance in game two on the mount.

Game 1: Siena 4, Mount St. Mary's 3
After falling behind 3-0, the Saints rallied back with two runs in the fourth inning and added one run in both the fifth and sixth innings to take the lead.

Emma Petersen was 4 for 4 at the plate with a RBI, Ashley Giampolo went 1 for 3 with a pair of RBI and a run scored while Madi Silber was 2 for 3 with a run.

Diana Parker came up with winning RBI that drove home pinch runner Carlie Venables, who was running for Jocelyn Ulrich.  Ulrich had reached base on a lead off single to get the rally started in the top of the sixth.

Eimont (9-3) came on in relief of Nicole Patilla and pitched five and a third innings without allowing a run on four hits and struck out five while walking just one.

Game 2: Siena 6, Mount St. Mary's 1
The Saints had to battle back from a deficit once again, but this time only trailed 1-0 at the end of the first.

Siena tied it 1-1 when Petersen homered to right field on a 2-1 pitch in the second inning and then took the lead for good in the fourth inning when Petersen came up to bat again and delivered a RBI single up the middle that plated Giampolo.

Ulrich added a double down the left field line that scored Petersen to make it a 3-1.

Eimont (10-3) pitched a complete game and allowed just one run on four hits and struck out five on 105 pitches.

Siena added three insurance runs in the seventh behind Isabella Pardo's RBI single and a double by Silber that scored two more.
