BUFFALO, NY – Siena Softball completed another road conference series with an 8-1 loss at two-time defending MAAC regular season champion Canisius at Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, New York on Sunday.
After taking 4-0 and 6-5 losses to the Golden Griffins on Saturday, struck first in the top of the second inning by way of senior
Mikala Fletcher's first collegiate home run. With ace pitcher Megan Giese back in the circle, the home team kept the Saints off the board for the rest of the game and stranded three runners defensively.
The Canisius offense turned in a crooked inning with three runs in the bottom of the third via an RBI single, RBI double, and a fielding error, and extended the lead to 7-1 in the fifth off a bases-clearing RBI double. The final run for the home team came off a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the sixth to complete the weekend sweep.
Canisius held a 5-3 hits advantage, with Fletcher, fifth year
Jocelyn Ulrich, and freshman
Chloe Cummings each recording a knock. Redshirt-sophomore
Alissa Eimont (13-6) took the loss in two and two-thirds innings with a pair of strikeouts, while graduate student
Nicole Patille fanned four in the remaining three and one-third innings.
Siena will look to get back to its winning ways as conference action continues with a midweek series, beginning on Tuesday, April 23 with a doubleheader against Niagara beginning at 2 PM on Siena Softball Field.
