Despite an 11-4 shot advantage and a 5-0 edge in shots on-goal, Siena Men's Soccer battled to a scoreless draw with the Northeastern Huskies in Brookline, MA on Sunday afternoon.
Goalie
Bennet Glinder recorded his first solo shutout of the season after going 90 minutes without facing a shot. The Siena defensive unit wreaked havoc throughout the match, limiting the Huskies to four total shots - two in each half.
Olafur Freysson,
Alejandro Perez Jorda,
Alexander Zielonka,
Joseph DiPreta, and
Lee Mara each had one shot on goal for the Saints. Siena also claimed a slight 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
Applying pressure early on, Freysson had the team's first shot on goal denied in the 3rd minute of the game from inside the box. Not long later in the 10th minute, Perez Jorda had a clean header look stopped by Tobias Jahn to keep the game scoreless. Zielonka had one more shot on target for the Saints in the first half but could not find the back of the net to enter the break even.
Siena's looks in the second half came early on as DiPreta's attempt in the 52nd was stopped, as was Mara's in the 61st. The team was held without a look on-goal over the final 29 minutes of action.
Siena (0-1-2) will continue its season-long four-match away stretch on Thursday, September 5 when it makes the short trip to take on crosstown foe UAlbany at 7 p.m.
