The streak continues. Siena Men's Soccer secured points in a matchup with the Canisius Golden Griffins for a 12th consecutive match following its 4-0 win over the Golden Griffins in Buffalo, NY, Wednesday.
The Saints improve to 3-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play and 4-4-1 overall following the win, while Canisius falls to 1-2 in the MAAC and 3-5-1 overall.
Lucas Almeida set a single-game MAAC high for the 2025 season with four assists in the game and also tied Kristian Kraszewski's single-game program record from Oct. 22, 1995.
Karl Tchounjin also received credit for the secondary assist on the team's first goal of the match.
Eric Svensson ('11) and
Mark Cajamarca ('19) scored their first goals of the season early in the first half, while
Campbell Stalker ('49) recorded his fourth and
Martin Piedeleu ('52) his third. Siena's four goals came over five shots on goal.
Bennet Glinder secured his third consecutive clean sheet of the season, stopping each of the two Golden Griffin's shots on goal.
Siena struck first late in the 11th minute thanks to Svensson's first goal of the season. Well positioned in front of goal, the senior back collected an Almeida shot that deflected off the crossbar and sent it to the back of the net with nobody home.
Shortly thereafter in the 19th minute, Cajamarca connected for his first goal of the season after receiving an assist from Almeida near the top of the box. The Saints held their 2-0 edge entering halftime with a 6-5 shot advantage (2-1 on goal).
The Saints were quick to add to their lead as the second half opened as Almeida delivered a no-look pass between multiple defenders to Stalker, who poked it in from just out front of goal. Three minutes later, Almeida tied the single-match program record with his fourth assist of the day on his connection with Piedeleu.
The Saints return to action at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, to host Rider on Hickey Field.
