LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Women's Soccer backline achieved arguably its best performance to date in what has already been an impressive season defensively. The Saints held the high-powered offense of reigning Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference runner-up Quinnipiac to just five total shots as the teams battled to a 0-0 draw on Hickey Field.
The Siena (5-3-5, 2-2-2) defense allowed a season-low in shots, while Quinnipiac (3-3-4, 3-0-3) matched a season-low in attempts. The Saints also held the Bobcats to a season-low tying four corners, less than half their season average of 8.44 entering play, which ranked fourth nationally.
Siena harbored an 8-5 advantage in shots while both teams attempted four corners apiece on an afternoon where offense was at a premium.
Catherine Rogers accounted for exactly half of the targets for the Saints who played to their fifth tie already this season, including a third scoreless stalemate.
Cate Burns made three saves to earn her conference-leading fifth clean sheet for Siena.
Gwen Hoyt stopped two shots for Quinnipiac which remains undefeated in MAAC action this season while running their unbeaten streak to five (3-0-2) over the Saints.
Siena kicks off the second half of their conference schedule – and continues a stretch where they play three of four away from home – when they head to Manhattan Saturday for a noon tilt.
