Volleyball Drops Four-Setter at Rider

MAAC Postseason Hopes Will Boil Down to Saturday’s results

Siena (13-18, 8-9 MAAC) fell to Rider (13-15, 11-6 MAAC) in four sets at Alumni Gymnasium on Friday evening, with scores of 18-25, 25-22, 20-25, 19-25.

The Saints put up a strong second-set performance but ultimately could not overcome the Broncs' 62 total kills.

The Saints' MAAC postseason hopes will come down to the final day of the regular season versus Saint Peter's on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Victor R. Yanitelli, S.J. Recreational Life Center in Jersey City, New Jersey. 

Siena is currently tied with Marist for the sixth and final playoff spot, however the Red Foxes hold the head-to-head tiebreaker by a one set difference between the teams during their 1-1 series this season.

Marist plays at Rider on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Mary Claire Deacy led the team with 14 kills on 31 attempts, finishing with a .355 hitting percentage and contributing three blocks.

Gabrielle Wire added 12 kills, converting at a .207 clip, while also collecting three digs.

Alandra Hasbrouck set up the offense effectively with 23 assists and added a match-high 14 digs.

Alara Doganyuz contributed 18 assists and two aces, supporting the team's offensive efforts.

First Set 
- The Broncs initiated the set with a service ace from Keegan O'Connor, propelling them to a 3-1 lead. 
- The Saints' Mary Claire Deacy responded with a kill, narrowing the margin to 4-2. 
- The Broncs extended their advantage with Kiannisha Santiago's consecutive kills, pushing the score to 14-7. 
- The Saints rallied late with a 5-0 run, including a block by Diraz and Berra Tok, reducing the deficit to 19-17. 
- Rider closed the set at 25-18 with a kill from Molly Rohde.

Second Set 
- Elizabeth Phillips initiated the Saints' scoring with a kill, assisted by Hasbrouck, setting the pace for the visitors. 
- Siena and Rider traded points, with Deacy contributing two kills to keep the set tied at 3-3. 
- A crucial service ace by Diraz helped the Saints build momentum, pushing them to a 15-12 lead. 
- Despite a late push from the Broncs, the Saints maintained control, closing the set 25-22 with a decisive kill by Deacy.

Third Set 
- Deacy opened with two early kills, contributing to the Saints' quick 2-1 lead. 
- Wire and Diraz delivered critical kills, helping the Saints maintain a narrow 5-4 advantage. 
- Rider's Kiannisha Santiago and Brynn Johnson combined for decisive kills, leveling the score at 17-17. 
- The Broncs closed the set with a strong 6-3 run, featuring a service ace by Simone Langford, winning 25-20. 

Fourth Set 
- The Saints took an early lead with a kill from Deacy, assisted by Hasbrouck, putting them up 1-0. 
- Wire made a significant impact for Siena, contributing multiple kills to level the score at 5-5. 
- The Broncs pulled ahead with consecutive kills from Santiago and Johnson, extending their lead to 7-6. 
- Rider finished the set strong with a kill from Santiago, concluding the set at 25-19.
