LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. — Siena Volleyball's season came to a close with a straight sets defeat (25-20, 25-15, 25-18) at No. 3 Rider in a MAAC Quarterfinals match on Tuesday evening at Alumni Gymnasium.
Rider's efficient attack was highlighted by a .424 hitting percentage in the second set, contributing to their victory.
Siena finishes with a 14-19 overall record as it went 9-9 in the MAAC.
It was an eight-win improvement over the previous season under first-year head coach Tyler Kanelos and most wins that the program has had in a single season since 2015 when it won 16 matches.Â
Rider improved to 15-15 overall and will advance to face No. 2 Quinnipiac on Saturday hosted by No.1 seed Fairfield.Â
Freshman
Mary Claire Deacy led the team with 12 kills on 32 attempts, contributing significantly to the offensive effort.
Senior
Alandra Hasbrouck facilitated the attack by recording 18 assists and also added 12 digs on the defensive end.
Sophomore
Gabrielle Wire supported the scoring with seven kills, while fellow sophomore
Alara Doganyuz provided nine assists to bolster the team's playmaking.
First SetÂ
- The Broncs opened with a steady attack, taking a 5-3 lead after a service ace by Kiannisha Santiago.Â
- The Saints kept the set close, tying the score at 12-12 with a kill from Wire.Â
- Rider regained momentum with a 5-1 run, highlighted by a kill from Carley McAleavey, bringing the score to 18-14.Â
- They closed the set with a strong finish, including consecutive kills by Santiago, to secure a 25-20 victory.
Second SetÂ
- Rider overcame an early Siena lead, leveling the score at 1-1 with a kill by Brynn Johnson.Â
- A service ace by Simone Langford and a subsequent kill by Molly Rohde pushed the Broncs ahead 3-1.Â
- They extended their advantage with a 7-0 run, featuring multiple kills from Johnson and Rohde, making it 14-7.Â
- Rider maintained their lead, closing the set at 25-15 with a block on Deacy's attack.
Third SetÂ
- Rider capitalized on consecutive Siena errors, including an attack error by Wire, to take an early 4-1 lead.Â
- The Saints leveled the score at 4-4 after an attack error by Rylah Robinson, followed by a service ace from
Ella Treasure.Â
- The Broncs then went on a decisive 6-1 run, highlighted by a service ace from Santiago, to push the score to 9-5.Â
- A late surge, featuring two service aces by Santiago, helped Rider secure the set 25-18.Â
