ALBANY, NY — Siena Women's Basketball fell to the University at Albany, 67-42, at the Broadview Center Wednesday evening as the Great Danes reclaimed the Albany Cup behind 52.2% shooting from the floor and 44.4% from three.
Valencia Fontenelle-Posson recorded three steals, contributing defensively for Siena (0-5).
Zyriah Price led the team with nine rebounds and two blocks.
Francesca Schiro added eight points and collected five rebounds, providing a solid performance.
Caydence Hadley scored eight points, converting four of six free throws.
Siena began with a defensive edge, blocking three shots and dominating the boards with 13 rebounds in the opening quarter. Despite their efforts in the paint, scoring eight points inside, Siena struggled with turnovers, committing six which limited their offensive rhythm. The Great Danes (3-2) capitalized on Siena's miscues and ended the quarter with a 20–9 lead.
Despite attempts to close the gap, Siena faced challenges offensively, converting only four field goals from 16 attempts in the quarter. Schiro added a tip-in with 15 seconds remaining to bring Siena's total to 18 points. UAlbany, however, extended their lead, finishing the quarter ahead, 40–18.
Siena saw a spark in the fourth quarter with Fontenelle-Posson contributing two consecutive layups, cutting into the deficit by capitalizing on a steal for a fastbreak score at 8:03. Despite a determined effort, including a late 3-pointer by
Dallas Pierce at 1:46, Siena's rally was not enough to close the gap. The quarter concluded with Siena scoring nine points to UAlbany's 10, and the game ended with a final score of 67-42 in favor of the Great Danes.
Siena will travel to Piscataway, NJ, next to face Rutgers on Monday, Nov. 24. The matchup will take place at Jersey Mike's Arena, with tipoff at 7 p.m.
