Now at 24 consecutive free throws made,
Teresa Seppala has reached a streak of 20+ from the charity strip for the second time this season. The national leader in free throw percentage (.967) has missed just two all season, nailing 58 of 60 attempts after coming off a season-high 9-9 performance at the line against Quinnipiac Saturday. With that showing last weekend, Seppala now owns the all-time best program single-game free-throw percentage - surpassing
Shondaya Burell, who went 8-8 against Niagara on Jan. 26, 2006.
After hitting four three-pointers last Saturday,
Ahniysha Jackson needs just seven more to become the third Saint to reach 200 for their career - and 13 more to become the all-time program leader.
A spark plug off the bench,
Myriam Traore has begun to make a name for herself as a half-court merchant. The freshman has knocked down a pair of buzzer beaters from mid-court this season – once at Sacred Heart, and another last Saturday at Quinnipiac to lead into the break. Shooting 57.1% from the field and 42.9% from three, the France native is fresh off a career-high 15 points, and has averaged just under 12 PPG over her last three outings.
Under third-year head coach Jennifer Leedham, the Peacocks enter Thursday 6-13 overall and, at 4-6 in the MAAC, eighth in the league standings. As one of the lowest-scoring offenses in the nation (51.3 PPG), Saint Peter's has offset its scoring struggles with a top-three scoring defense in the MAAC - allowing just 59.5 points per outing. However, the Peacocks do boast Fatmata Janneh, who is tied atop the league averaging 18.7 points per night on .455% shooting from the field. Aside from her, no other player produces double-figures in scoring. Saint Peter's will look to erase a three-game losing skid come Thursday.
The Saints and Peacocks are set to meet for the 83rd time Thursday night, with the Green and Gold holding a 47-35 advantage in the series. Since the 2010-11 season, Siena is 24-4 against Saint Peter's which includes each of the last five games since Mar. 3, 2022. In games played at Run Baby Run Arena over the last two seasons, the Saints have enjoyed wins by an average of 21 points. Last season,
Ahniysha Jackson set career-highs with 31 points and six steals against the Peacocks on Jan. 6, 2024.
The Saints return to the UHY center at 2 p.m. Saturday to host Rider for Gold Rush, and National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Secure your tickets for the game
