Saints Stumble in Regular Season Finale

Manhattan Tops Siena at UHY Center

LOUDONVILLE, NY - The Manhattan Jaspers played spoiler to Siena Women's Basketball's Senior Day Saturday afternoon, topping the Saints 62-49 in the regular season finale from the UHY Center. 
 
The Saints (17-12, 14-6) will be the No. 3 seed in the MAAC Championships and face sixth-seeded Merrimack in the Quarterfinals Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ. 
 
Ahniysha Jackson led the Saints with 14 points and, with the first of two made threes in the game, became the all-time program leader for made three-pointers in a career. Anajah Brown added 10 points and nine rebounds in her final game at the UHY Center
 
Leyla Ozturk had 10 of the Jaspers' 14 first quarter points as the Saints trailed by five entering the second.  Siena was held to 4-18 from the floor over the first 10 minutes of play, as well as 0-4 from deep, while Manhattan dominated the paint with 12 points coming from near the rim
 
The Jaspers began the second quarter on a 8-0 run and held Siena scoreless for over five minutes. Teresa Seppala connected on a 3-pointer with 2:22 remaining in the half to make it 28-15. The sides scored two more points each through the remainder of the half as Manhattan held a comfortable 30-17 advantage midway through. 
 
Siena came out with its strongest quarter of the day in the third - out-scoring the Jaspers 18-12 on the heels of 8-17 shooting from the floor. The Saints' eight field goals made were more than in the previous two quarters combined, and aided in entering the fourth with just a seven-point deficit. As part of the third quarter Jackson set the program's all-time record for most 3-pointers made at the 8:32 mark of the third quarter to cut the lead to 10.  It was her 206th career 3-pointer made, passing Peg Taylor's long-standing record since 1992.  
 
In the fourth, however, Manhattan responded by topping Siena 20-8 thanks to a defense that held the Green and Gold to a quarter-low 18.2% mark from the field to pull away to its 19-point win. 
 
Siena and Merrimack met just one time this season, resulting in a 79-57 Saints victory from the UHY Center on Jan. 18. Aside from an early 3-2 deficit, the Saints commanded the entire game led by 51 combined points from Ahniysha Jackson (21), Anajah Brown (16), and Teresa Seppala (14). The win served as Siena's best shooting performance of the season going 59.3% from the field (32-54), and was one of two games in which the team went over 50% from three (8-15).
