Saints Finish 2025 Season at Iona

Siena Falls to Gaels and Red Foxes

Siena Water Polo finished its 2025 season Sunday afternoon in New Rochelle, NY with a pair of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matches against Iona and (RV) Marist. The Saints fell to Iona 18-12 before dropping its final match of the day to (RV) Marist 14-11.

Iona 18, Siena 12

The Saints jumped out to a blazing start with three straight goals by Lucia Fernandez Caballero, Parker Thomas, and Catherine Williamson. The Gaels responded with two of their own to make it a 3-2 game, but Williamson and Quincy Frommelt closed out the first with quick scores to put Siena up by three entering the second.

There, Iona notched the first three goals of the frame to tie the match at five, while a Thomas score with 4:55 to play in the half gave Siena a one-goal edge. However, Iona ended the half on a 3-0 run to lead 8-6 at the break.

In a high scoring third that saw 12 combined goals, Iona edged Siena by two to lead by four going into the fourth before limiting the Saints to just one in the final frame.

Williamson led the Saints with four, while Fernandez Caballero and Thomas had two each. Savana Slaughter made seven saves in goal for Siena.

(RV) Marist 14, Siena 11

Two Catherine Williamson goals gave Siena a quick 2-0 lead three minutes in, as well as get her to the 90-goal mark of the season. Marist rattled off three straight before GayLynn Kirn evened things up once again. The Red Foxes wound up with a 4-3 lead after one.

In the second, Williamson scored her third of the game while Marist went on to take three of the final four of the period to lead 7-5 at halftime. The sides traded the first two scores of the third - both of Siena's coming from Williamson - while Marist notched two of the final three to extend its lead entering the fourth.

Rebecca Currie got the scoring going with just under six minutes to go in the game, but Marist scored back-to-back goals to climb back up by four - helping put the game away.
