Saints Take Flight

Siena Takes Down Eagles for First Power Conference Win in 14 Years

Statement made. Siena Men's Soccer accomplished something Monday evening it hadn't done since 2011: defeat a Power Conference opponent. The Saints went into Chestnut Hill, MA, and took down the Atlantic Coast Conference's Boston College (BC) Eagles 3-1, also marking their first win of the 2025 season.

Siena's last win over a Power Conference team came on Sept. 4, 2011, in a 2-1 overtime victory over Syracuse in Loudonville. Additionally, the Saints also topped #15 Ohio State 1-0 on Aug. 29, 2011, in the Penn State Classic.

Campbell Stalker (14', 72') and Lee Mara (66') provided the offense for Siena (1-1), while BC's (1-1) lone goal came off the foot of Russell Brown (9'). Martin Piedeleu, Benjamin Fogarty, and Mara each assisted in the win as well.  Bennet Glinder made two saves in goal en route to earning his first winning decision of the season.

Siena finished the match with a 17-12 shot advantage, as well as a 7-3 edge on goal. BC had a 4-2 upper hand on corners, with all four coming in the second half.

The sides struck early in the match, with Brown granting BC a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute, while Stalker scored off a rebound following a Mara shot to score in the 14th minute. Following Stalker's goal and midway through the first half, Siena held a 7-4 shot advantage over the Eagles.

Siena limited BC to one shot attempt through the final 22 minutes of the first, which sailed to the right of Glinder in goal, while Eric Svensson and Piedeleu combined for three more looks for the Green and Gold to take the match into halftime with the score tied at 1-1.

Although the sides settled in the second half - with BC marginally out-shooting the Saints 3-2 through 20 minutes - Siena eventually struck for the difference maker in the 66th minute. Crashing in from the left of the box, Mara corralled Fogarty's header from the opposite side and found the back of an open net for the team's first lead of the evening at 2-1.

Not long later, in the 72nd minute, Stalker extended Siena's lead to 3-1 with his second goal of the match and third of the season. The sophomore followed Fogarty's initial shot and slotted the contested put-back low to put the game out of reach and send the Saints home with a powerful win.

Siena returns to action Friday, Aug. 29, when the team makes a trip to the West Coast to take on Portland. Kickoff is set for 10 p.m. ET (7 p.m. PT).
