Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Xavier Pulls Past Siena

Xavier Pulls Away with Four Second Half Goals

After playing to a scoreless draw in Loudonville last season, Siena Men's Soccer made the return trip to Cincinnati, OH, Sunday to take on the Xavier Musketeers. Thanks to four second half goals, Xavier took the rematch 6-0 from Corcoran Field.

Xavier (2-2-1) out-shot Siena (1-4) 15-14, with Campbell Stalker and Lee Mara leading the Green and Gold with three each. The Musketeers made the most of their opportunities with a 13-3 edge on-goal. Bennet Glinder made five saves and allowed two goals through 45 minutes, while Zackary Kacic made a pair of stops and gave up four goals over the final 45 minutes.

Glinder kept the game scoreless early with two saves within the first seven minutes of action. The Musketeers controlled possession through the early stages until Stalker (two), Mara, and Martin Piedeleu combined for four shots to even the total. However, Xavier broke through with two goals just over one minute apart in the '27 and '28 to lead 2-0, which would hold until halftime.

Xavier opened the second half with a goal in the 47th minute followed by its fourth tally of the match in the 54th. The Musketeers added their fifth goal in the 69th minute on a penalty kick and their sixth in the 79th. Despite Xavier's scoring in the second half, the Saints showed fight - evening the shot total 6-6 over the final 45 minutes.

The Saints return to the pitch on Saturday, Sept. 20, when the team travels to Riverdale, NY, for its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener against Manhattan. Kickoff from Gaelic Park is set for 1 p.m.
