Saints Finish Non-Conference Play on High Note

Women’s Soccer Defeats Vermont 2-1 in Burlington

Catherine Rogers and Micaiah Croce scored and Cate Burns made seven saves as Siena Women's Soccer wrapped up their non-conference schedule on a high note with a 2-1 triumph over Vermont in Burlington.

Rogers scored just prior to the end of the first half and Croce added what proved to be a decisive insurance tally early in the final frame for Siena (3-2-4, 0-1-1), which snapped a five-match winless streak albeit that included four ties. The Saints equaled their scoring output from that five-match stretch to secure their first road win of the season.

Rogers provided Siena with momentum heading into the break following a skillful 44th minute tally. She teed up a free kick from just outside the left corner of the box which curled in over the wall and inside the near post for a brilliant finish.

Cate Flanagan reclaimed the conference lead with her fifth assist in the 62nd minute, beating her defender down the left side and crossing in front to Croce, as the senior one-timed home her fourth collegiate goal and first match-winner.

Sydney Remington got Vermont (2-3-3) on the scoreboard in the 80th minute, but it wasn't enough as the Saints snapped a four-match losing skid vs. UVM. Siena had been unbeaten in their previous 11 matches against the Catamounts prior to that (9-0-2).

UVM held a 17-14 advantage in shots while the Saints harbored a 7-3 margin in corners.

A pair of keepers split duty and totaled five saves for Vermont which finishes winless in four tries against MAAC opponents this fall (0-2-2).

Siena will look to carry the momentum back into the return of conference action when they host Niagara Saturday at 1 p.m. on Hickey Field.
