Saints Resume Conference Action Against Niagara

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Fresh off a victory in their non-conference finale, Siena Women's Soccer returns to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action when the Saints host Niagara Saturday at 1 p.m. on Hickey Field.

Ryan Zimmerman and former Saint Caitlin Wania '23 have the call of the third of five regular season Siena Women's Soccer ESPN+ broadcasts this fall.

Siena (3-2-4, 0-1-1) returns to conference play for good looking to build momentum from a 2-1 triumph over Vermont Wednesday night in Burlington. The Saints secured their first win in 27 days, snapping a five-match winless streak, albeit which had included four ties. Siena equaled its scoring output from the five-match stretch to secure their first road win of 2025.

Now the Saints seek to check off another important first – their first win in league play. Siena opened MAAC competition with a 1-0 setback vs. Sacred Heart two Saturdays ago, while rallying to claim a 1-1 tie at I-87 rival Marist last weekend.

Led by new head coach in former assistant Donny George, Niagara (3-2-1, 0-1-1) too is in search of its first league win following an identical conference start. While the Saints have been led by a stout defense – which ranks third in the MAAC in goals allowed (1.11) – the Purple Eagles contrast with a scoring offense which enters the weekend ranked 53rd nationally and second in the league averaging 2.17 goals per game. Caitlyn Gratton paces the attack, ranking tied for second in the country in goals per game (1.00) and tied for 14th in points per game (2.00).

The longtime MAAC rivals are deadlocked all-time at 15-15-6 as they get set to square off for the 37th time. Siena pulled back even in the series history with a thrilling 2-1 victory last season on Monteagle Ridge, punctuated by the match-winner from Abby Daly with just 1:59 remaining.
