Three Cheers

Rogers Third Brace Secures Saints Third Separate Three-Match Win Streak

Catherine Rogers punctuated a three-goal second half with her third brace of the season to send Siena Women's Soccer to its third separate three-match win streak with a 3-1 victory over Saint Peter's in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Rogers starred Saturday afternoon with her fifth collegiate two-goal performance to help Siena (9-3-1, 5-2) build upon the program's best start to a season in 16 years. The brace – which included her fourth match-winning goal of the season – pushed the junior past the 20-point milestone for the third straight campaign to begin her collegiate career, while her 23 goals now move her into sixth all-time in program history.

Rogers headed in a cross from the left from Maddy Hopeck to open the scoring in the 58th minute. Just over 10 minutes later, she used her head once again – albeit this time from the right side off a corner from Tiana Mainella – for what proved to be the decisive tally.

The Saints put the icing on the proverbial birthday cake for Maya Costa in the 85th minute when the senior scored an Olympico for a memorable birthday blast.

Saint Peter's (1-10-1, 0-5-1) broke up the shutout less than a minute later when Mira Itzin knocked in a long free kick, but it wasn't nearly enough as Siena remained undefeated on Jaroschak Field in the 21st century. The Saints have won all 13 of their matches at the facility during a streak which began in 2000, while outscoring the Peacocks by a 44-11 margin.

Cate Burns made six saves for Siena, while Bergljot Kristinsdottir also stopped six shots for Saint Peter's.

The Saints held decided advantages in both shots (20-10) and corner kicks (9-1).

Following a tie and a loss in their first two attempts at a four-match win streak earlier this season, the Saints will try to make the third time a charm when they return home to host Mount St. Mary's next Saturday at 1 p.m. on Hickey Field.
