RIVERDALE, NY — Siena Women's Basketball (11-12, 9-5 MAAC) earned a convincing 91-72 road victory over Manhattan (5-18, 5-9 MAAC) Sunday afternoon at Draddy Gym in a makeup game originally scheduled for Feb. 7. Siena's pressure defense set the tone, forcing 20 turnovers that led to 27 points and collecting 12 steals in the team's fourth straight win.
Francesca Schiro continued her outstanding stretch, scoring 24 points while dishing out a career-high nine assists. The performance marked her 11th 20-point game of the season and fifth consecutive, further highlighting her role as Siena's offensive catalyst.
Nicole Melious delivered a season-high 25 points and added seven rebounds for her second 20-point effort of the year, while
Kaiya Rain Tucker posted a career-high 23 points and two blocks for the first 20-point game of her career.
Garrisen Freeman provided rim protection with three blocks, helping Siena control the paint.
Siena wasted little time establishing control, opening the game on a 6-0 run behind early baskets from Melious and Tucker. The Saints' defensive pressure disrupted Manhattan's rhythm throughout the first quarter, as Siena forced nine turnovers and recorded six steals in the opening 10 minutes. Schiro knocked down a three-pointer midway through the period to extend the lead, and Siena closed the quarter ahead 26-13.
The Saints built on their momentum in the second quarter, pairing efficient offense with opportunistic defense. Melious and Schiro each connected from beyond the arc as Siena steadily widened the gap, while
Jamariah Turner and
Caydence Hadley helped create scoring opportunities off turnovers. Siena outscored Manhattan 25-17 in the period to take a commanding 51-30 lead into halftime.
Manhattan showed renewed energy coming out of the break, but Siena continued to answer every push. Melious sparked the offense with a three-point play and a late three-pointer in the third quarter as the Saints shot efficiently and maintained a comfortable cushion. Siena entered the final period with a 70-53 advantage.
In the fourth quarter, Tucker helped put the game out of reach with a quick scoring burst, and Melious added another three-pointer as Siena maintained control on both ends of the floor. The Saints' defense continued to generate stops and transition opportunities down the stretch, securing the 19-point road victory.
Siena will look to carry its momentum into Thursday's matchup at Quinnipiac. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at M&T Bank Arena in Hamden, CT.
