Siena Splits Twinbill at Le Moyne, Powers Back with 10-Run Response

Saints Drop Opener Before Erupting for 11 Hits in Run-Rule Victory

Siena Softball split its Tuesday doubleheader against Le Moyne, falling 4–2 in the opener before responding emphatically with a 10–1, six-inning victory in game two.

Le Moyne 4, Siena 2
Siena battled back late but couldn't overcome a decisive third inning in the opener, dropping a 4–2 decision despite a composed effort in the circle from Violet Marta.

Marta was efficient throughout, tossing a complete game on just 52 pitches, including 36 strikes. The right-hander allowed four hits and three earned runs while striking out two and issuing no walks, consistently keeping Le Moyne hitters off balance outside of one costly swing.

That swing came during Le Moyne's four-run third inning, when a throwing error extended the frame before Audrey Benderski delivered a three-run home run to put Siena in a 4–0 hole.

The Saints chipped away in the fifth. Emma Petersen worked a walk and was replaced by pinch runner Mckenzie Faherty, while Cali DeLawder followed with her third free pass of the game. Mary Mikalsen entered as a pinch runner, setting the stage for Ella Milante, who lined a two-run single to center to cut the deficit in half.

Siena managed just four hits overall—two going for doubles—but couldn't generate further offense down the stretch.

Milante drove in both runs, while DeLawder reached base four times via a double and three walks, providing a steady presence at the top of the lineup.

Siena 10, Le Moyne 1 (6 innings)
The Saints flipped the script in game two, erupting for 10 runs on 11 hits in a run-rule victory to salvage the split.

Kaytlin Stephens anchored the bounce-back effort with a complete-game performance, earning her first win of the season and her career. She scattered seven hits and allowed just one earned run across six innings, striking out two without issuing a walk while throwing 51 strikes on 83 pitches.

After surrendering a solo home run in the second inning, Stephens settled in and allowed just one run the rest of the way as Siena's offense took control.

The breakthrough came in the fourth inning, when Chloe Cummings sparked a three-run rally with an RBI single. Emma Petersen and Cali DeLawder both crossed the plate in the frame, giving Siena a 3–1 lead it would not relinquish.

The Saints broke the game open in the fifth, plating four runs. Petersen delivered an RBI double after Cummings and Megan Klein reached base, while a pair of passed balls and a DeLawder sacrifice fly added to the surge. Siena continued to apply pressure with timely hits, including an RBI knock from DiMeglio and a bases-loaded walk drawn by Sarah Miller.

Siena capped the scoring in the sixth with three more runs. Cummings walked and Petersen singled to set the table for Arianna DeCotis, who laced a two-run double. A sacrifice fly from Sophia Colucci brought home the final run to enforce the run rule.

Petersen led the charge with three hits and two runs scored, while Cummings added two hits and crossed the plate three times. DeCotis provided a key spark off the bench with two RBIs, and DeLawder continued her strong day by reaching base and contributing to multiple scoring sequences.

Siena returns to MAAC play on Friday, May 1, traveling to Poughkeepsie to take on Marist at noon.
