Saints’ MAAC Tournament Run Comes to a Close

Siena Battles Through Weather Delay, Falls in MAAC Championships

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — Siena Softball saw its 2026 season come to a close Thursday at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships at Gartland Field. The sixth-seeded Saints fell to third-seeded Iona, 3-1, in the completion of a suspended opening-round contest before dropping a 10-5 decision to fifth-seeded Quinnipiac in an elimination game later in the day.

Siena concluded the year with a 25-22 overall record while making its ninth consecutive appearance in the MAAC Championships.

#3 Iona 3, #6 Siena 1
The Saints resumed play against Iona Thursday morning after the game was suspended entering the sixth inning due to rain on Wednesday, May 6. Siena threatened throughout the contest but stranded 10 runners on base despite recording four hits.

Senior Emma Petersen highlighted the effort by going 2-for-3 and collecting the 200th hit of her collegiate career, becoming just the fourth player in Siena Softball program history to reach the milestone. Sarah Miller drove in Siena's lone run with a sacrifice fly, while Chloe Cummings reached base twice with a hit and a walk.

MAAC Pitcher of the Year Gracie Goewey turned in another complete-game effort in the circle, striking out four over six innings while allowing three runs on six hits.

Siena manufactured the game's first run in the second inning when Gianna DiMeglio reached on an error and eventually scored on Miller's sacrifice fly. Iona answered with two runs in the bottom half of the frame and added an insurance run in the fourth before holding off the Saints the rest of the way.

#5 Quinnipiac 10, #6 Siena 5
Facing elimination later Thursday afternoon, Siena collected 12 hits against Quinnipiac but was unable to overcome a pivotal four-run fourth inning from the Bobcats.

Petersen paced the offense with a four-hit performance that included a two-run home run and three RBI. Cali DeLawder added three hits and two RBI, while Carlie Venables scored twice.

The Saints struck early when Petersen launched a two-run homer in the first inning to tie the game at 2-2. Quinnipiac regained control with a two-run home run in the third and later extended its advantage with a four-run fourth inning.

Siena responded with three runs in the home half of the fourth, highlighted by DeLawder's two-run single, but Quinnipiac maintained the lead and added two more runs in the sixth to secure the win.

Goewey, Violet Marta, and Kaytlin Stephens combined to pitch for the Saints in the season finale. Goewey had two strikes in the game, tying her for the single-season program record with 164.
